Tripti Saini
Tripti has done her Under-Graduation majoring Genetics and Biotechnology from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, India. She is currently continuing her MS in Biology in the Department of Biology at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Her research is focused on understanding the Role of Ion-Channels in Gastric acid physiology. She plans to continue her career as ‘Molecular Biologist’. Outside the research Tripti likes to cook, read and many adventure activities.
Mandip Tamang
Mandip completed his bachelor’s degree majoring in biotechnology from Purbanchal University, Kathmandu, Nepal in 2017. He is a graduate student in the department of biology at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. His research is focused on understanding the role of biofertilizing and biocontrol traits of Pseudomonas fluorescens in plant growth and development. He wants to pursue his career as a “Plant Cellular and Molecular Biologist”. In his free time, Mandip likes playing soccer, hiking, and watching movies.
Undergraduate Students
Oscar Cazares
Oscar Cazares is a Biology and Psychology double major with a Medical Humanities minor. He wishes to obtain an MD and then provide basic medical help to people in developing countries, as well as improve the public health systems of these countries through advocacy for policy change. He hopes to gain in-depth research skills in Dr. Sahoo’s lab to help him implement and interpret medical programs in these developing countries.
Giovanni Gallo
Giovanni Gallo is an undergraduate student at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Currently, he is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biology. His goal is to attend medical school and later become a cardiothoracic surgeon with the dream of saving lives. He recently joined Dr. Sahoo’s lab to gain a deeper understanding of research techniques and build a stronger foundation in biology.
Darrel Bartimus
Darrel is an undergraduate senior pursuing a Bachelor’s in biology and a Minor in chemistry. He is passionate about his studies and looks forward to further pursuing higher education. He is excited to start contributing to Sahoo’s lab. His goal is to gain much information into the research field for future endeavors.
Ivan Benavides
Ivan Benavides is an undergraduate at UTRGV currently pursuing a bachelors in biology with a concentration in biological sciences. He plan to graduate this year and apply to medical school as well. Once he is in medical school, he plan to specialize in either anesthesiology or oncology. He is looking forward to being a part of Sahoo lab and gain research experience to have a better understanding of the type of lab work in biological sciences.

Luis Torres
Luis is a B2BMED cohort, graduated from Hanna High School in 2016. He is finishing his associates in science at Texas Southmost College. He then plans to finish his degree in bio med and further his studies towards a Ph.D., while pursuing an MD and becoming part of the health care workforce. One of his greatest passions is the ability to get involved in today’s innovative research and try to answer or solve profound questions in the subject of health science. He is looking forward to furthering his experience as a research assistant while exploring the broad career options biomedicine offers.
Dhruva Sudershan
Dhruva Sudershan is currently majoring in biomedical sciences as a freshman. He graduated from South Texas High School for Health Professions “Med High”. He joined Sahoo lab to pursue his ambition as independent scientist.
